
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Union College trio of Amy Russell, Karen Caldwell and Jamie Bonza finished first through third in the women’s ten-mile time trial this weekend in the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference events held at the University of Michigan. The group also finished in the Top-four in their cross country race as well.
Caldwell (Bristol, Tenn.) started the weekend with a win in the B-class cross country event to go with her second place in the time trial. Russell (Monticello, Ky.) won the time trial and was third in cross country. Bonza (Corbin, Ky.) was third in the time trial with a fourth-place cross country finish.
Freshman Zach Winn (Ontario, Canada) also picked up two second-place finishes in the expert men’s cross country and the ten-mile time trial events.
Greg Gibson (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished in the top-ten three times. He started with an eighth place finish in the expert cross country event, followed by a fifth in the time trial and he ended the weekend with another fifth in the short track race. Jonathan Turner (Harlan, Ky.) also raced to two top-ten finishes in the same events.
The squad will take this weekend off in preparation to defend their MWCC Championship on October 12 and 13 at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. Union has won three-straight MWCC Championship and four of the last five.
