BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College sank nearly half its shots and drained over 60 percent of its 3-pointers as the Lady Bulldogs snapped their three-game losing skid with a 92-43 victory over visiting Covenant (Ga.) College Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs connected on 33-of-67 shots (49.3 percent) while burying 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) of their 3-pointers. Capri Savage (Orofino, Idaho) made a living behind the arc as she made 5-of-7 from long range in netting 15 points.

Brooke Smith (Pineville, Ky.) led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds, recording her eighth double-double of the season.

In all, only three Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures with Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) joining Smith and Savage as she netted 11 points to go along with her game-high five steals and five assists. Laura Perkins (Myra, Ky.) and Rachel Underwood (Bremen, Ky.) each scored a season-high nine points.

Senior guard Carley Blankenship (Lexington, Ky.) had only seven points but dished out seven assists.

Union really took advantage of Covenant's miscues, cashing in 37 Lady Scot turnovers for 42 points. Meanwhile, Covenant scored only nine points off of Union's 20 turnovers.

Covenant struggled mightily from the field, hitting only 13-of-50 shots (26 percent) from the floor and just 1-of-10 from 3-point range.

Erika Forland was the lone Lady Scot to hit double figures with her scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs used a 25-3 run in the first half to open up a 44-14 cushion en route to a 47-18 halftime lead. Covenant went 7:34 without making a field goal.

In the second half, a 13-0 run midway through the second half opened up a 49-point lead for Union as the lead eventually grew to 78-26 with 7:19 remaining. From that point on, the margin never got lower than 45 points as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to the 92-43 decision.

The 49-point margin of victory is the largest in program history, eclipsing the previous mark of 47 when Union defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University 123-76 on Nov. 5, 2004.

The win upped Union's record to 11-7 overall, while Covenant dropped to 5-8 on the year.

Union will travel to Montreat (N.C.) College Saturday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
