BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The groundhog said spring would come late this year, and the Union baseball and softball teams are finding that out the hard way as their games this weekend have been canceled.

The Bulldog baseball team was to play Indiana Tech and Cincinnati Clermont; however, the wet and poor field conditions have forced the games to be canceled. No makeup dates have been announced.

Union Field, the Lady Bulldogs' home turf, is also hampered by poor playing conditions to warrant canceling the doubleheader with NCAA Division II Bellarmine (Ky.) University. The games likely not be rescheduled.

For now, the Bulldog baseball team is schedule play its first game of the season at No. 5 Lee (Tenn.) Wednesday at 4 p.m. This will be the first-ever, regular-season meeting between the two squads. Union faced Lee at the 2008 NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, with the Flames pulling out the 14-8 decision.

The Lady Bulldog softball team will have to wait until Feb. 24 to open the season when it will host Campbellsville (Ky.) at 1 p.m.
