ROME, Ga. - Union could not keep pace with no. 18 University of Mobile as the Rams topped the Bulldogs 10-0 at the Shorter Classic on Friday.
With the loss Union's record now sits at 1-1 (0-0 AAC) on the year.
The Lady Bulldogs hung tough with the Rams for the first four innings, but defensive miscues and offensive struggles proved costly as Union committed five errors in the contest, walked five Ram batters, and did not record a hit in the loss.
The only Lady Bulldog to reach base was sophomore Ali Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) as she drew a walk and then recorded a stolen base.
Senior Sarah Driver tossed four and a third innings against the Rams, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out four batters. The Hopkinsville, Ky. native was done in by her four hit batters, as she was battling in and out of jams all night.
Sophomore Jessie Dunning (Bowling Green, Ky.) hurled the last inning and two thirds for the Lady Bulldogs and was charged with two earned runs on three hits, a strike out and a walk.
The Rams got a stellar performance from Leslie Pickette as the senior notched a complete game no-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action this afternoon against classic host, Shorter College.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
