ROME, Ga. - Abby Sears extended her record on the year to 2-0 in the circle as the Lady Bulldogs topped Emmanuel College in its final game at the Shorter Classic.
Union improves its record to 2-2 (0-0 AAC) with the win over the Lady Lions.
Sears (London, Ky.) hurled all six innings and recorded seven strikeouts while only allowing one hit and two walks. She also had a solid day from the dish, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
The contest stayed close in the early stages as the Lady Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. From there Union exploded for three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, ending the game in the sixth frame at 8-0.
The Lady Bulldogs bats came alive in the contest, recording 13 hits on the day. Freshman Autumn Greenwell (Hopkinsville, Ky.) went 3-for-3 on the day with 3 RBI's. Both Jessie Dunning (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Bethany Rogers (Crofton, Ky.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Dunning also added two runs scored.
Junior Gina Loflin (Salisbury, N.C.) went 1-for-3 from the plate with a two runs scored and seniors Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Bethany Outland (Hopkinsville, Ky.) combined to go 4-for-7 in the winning effort for the Lady Bulldogs.
Union returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Pikeville for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
