BARBOURVILLE, Ky. Ė After scoring two unanswered goals in the second half, the Union College womenís soccer team was able to force a 2-2 tie versus the visitors from Milligan (Tenn.) College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest Wednesday.
With the tie, Union moves to 3-1-1 in the conference and 6-5-1 overall while Milligan holds a 2-3-2 conference mark with an overall record of 3-9-2.
Union cut into Milliganís lead in the 70th minute with an unassisted goal from Karin Moore (Owingsville, Ky.) to the far post. The game-tying goal was scored by Heather Jaques (Manitoba, Canada) off a one-timer with the assist from Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) in the 80th minute.
The Lady Bulldogs' head coach Juliana Filipe was proud of the play of Moore. She has been the most consistent player and most of the team's chances went through her yesterday. Filipe also added that her goal was a reward for her hard work.
The first Milligan goal came right before halftime, at the 42 minute mark, when Jenna Zutt booted a direct kick into the goal from 35 yards out. In the 68th minute, Tiffany Brown put a loose ball in to make the score 2-0 in favor of the visitors. Also the Lady Buffs played the final 35 minutes with only ten players after Katie Kiebler was given her second yellow card in the 75th minute.
Union took 23 shots with ten on goal while Milligan only attempted seven shots, six on goal. The Lady Bulldogs also had 13 corner kicks compared to Milliganís three. Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) recorded four saves in Unionís goal while Rosanna Couture stopped eight shots for Milligan.
