BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The number 13 wasn't unlucky for the 16th-ranked Bulldogs as Union recorded its 13th win in a row with a 13-11 decision over visiting Cincinnati Clermont (Ohio) Wednesday.

Union improves to 19-6 overall and returns to action Saturday and Sunday with a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series at Bluefield (Va.). Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. with Sunday's nine-inning tilt set to start at 1 p.m.

Despite outscoring Clermont, Union was outhit 16-9. However, the Bulldogs took advantage of 10 bases on balls and seven hit batters.

Brian Mouton (Oakland, Calif.) drove in a team-high three runs in going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Josh Longbrake (St. Cloud, Fla.) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) finished 2-for-2 with two knocked in and a run scored. Ryan Satterlee (Youngstown, Ohio) drove in two runs as he went 1-of-3 with a solo home run and two run scored.

After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars broke loose for four runs in the second to take the early advantage. Union countered in the bottom of the inning with six runs as the rally was aided by two errors, two wild pitches, three walks and three hit batters. The Bulldogs had just two hits in taking the 6-4 advantage, a leadoff single by Steve Scheelk (Kansas City, Mo.) and a run-scoring double by Mouton.

Clermont reclaimed the lead in the third with a three-run outburst. Steve Hendrickson delivered a two-run single to put the Cougars up 7-6 but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double to end the inning.

Satterlee tied the game at 7-7 with his second home run of the season in the bottom of the third before Union seized the lead for good with a five-run fourth. The Bulldogs needed only three hits in the inning with the Cougars helping out with a walk, two hit batters, a balk and a passed ball. Longbrake came through with a two-run single, and Mouton added a two-run single to lift Union to a 12-7 lead.

In the sixth, Clermont cut the margin to 12-11 as Jeff Muse roped a two-run double to the left-field wall and Andrew Hord and Bobby Noeth each collected a RBI.

It remained a one-run game until the eighth when Union collected an insurance run. Hedrick was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Longbrake, making it 13-11.

Koby Hearn (Paris, Ky.) then set down the Cougars in order in the ninth to record his second save of the season.

Jordan Mynear (Carlisle, Ky.) picked up the win to go to 1-0 on the season. He pitched three innings in relief, allowing three earned runs on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Hearn tossed the final 3 1/3 innings, surrendering no runs on one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.
