BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Junior catcher Gina Loflin (Salisbury, N.C.) earned the Appalachian Athletic Conference player of the week honor, conference officials announced today.
This is Loflin's second player of the week honor this season, having earned her first weekly honor back on March 22.
The Lady Bulldogs went 2-4 on the week, with all the matchups being AAC battles. Union now sits at 16-16 (8-8 AAC) on the year with four non-conference battles left to play.
For the week, the Sailsbury, N.C. native connected on nine of 19 attempts at the plate (.474 avg.), scored six runs and knocked in 10 RBI's.
Loflin's most impressive day at the office came in the doubleheader against Montreat College on Sunday as the junior went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBI's. In the doubleheader, game one saw Loflin belt a grand slam, putting the Lady Bulldogs up 6-1.
Starting all 32 games this season, Loflin has accrued a .354 batting average to go along with her four doubles and four homeruns. She has also tallied a team high 25 runs scored to go along with 25 RBI's in her first season at Union.
Union returns to the diamond tomorrow evening as it will head to Lincoln Memorial University for a doubleheader under the lights. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
