SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A 28-point outburst in the second quarter propelled NCAA FCS Wofford (S.C.) to a 48-10 victory over Union Saturday.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-2 overall, while the Terriers are 2-1.
Union is now 0-7 all-time against NCAA FCS schools, and the 38-point margin was the smallest of all the defeats. Also, the 48 points are the second fewest Union has allowed.
Wofford outgained Union 421-242 in total offense, collecting 335 rushing yards. The Bulldogs threw for 160 yards with 82 coming on the ground.
Mike Brinkley (Anthony, Fla.) completed 11-of-17 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown, while Armond Smith (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led the ground attack with 45 yards rushing on eight carries.
Sean Mackey (Reddick, Fla.) had a huge game with seven catches for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Down 7-0 in the first, Chad Boyington (Stockbridge, Ga.) booted a 23-yard field goal to make it 7-3 with 4:48 left in the period.
However, the Terriers scored again before the end of the quarter for a 14-3 advantage before reeling off 28 points in the second for a 42-3 halftime lead. Brian Kass and Eric Breitenstein each had two rushing touchdowns in the first half.
Christian Reed booted field goals of 47 and 48 yards in the third to extend the Terrier lead to 48-3.
Brinkley hooked up with Mackey for a 62-yard scoring strike in the fourth to complete the scoring and make it 48-10.
Marcus McGinnis (Louisville, Ky.) and Terry Young (Orange Park, Fla.) both recorded a team-high six tackles, while Jeremy Baker (West Palm Beach, Fla.) had four tackles and two sacks.
Union returns home Saturday to host UVa-Wise at 12 p.m.
