BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Both
Ashley Hall and Renata Peixoto scored two goals apiece to lead the Union women's
soccer team to a decisive 5-0 victory over Bryan in Appalachian Athletic
Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Burch/Nau Field.
With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs improved
to 7-6 on the year, 3-0 in the AAC, while Bryan dropped to 7-4-1 overall with
the loss, 1-2 in the AAC.
In the first half, Union got on the board
quickly, as Hall (Hazard, Ky.) added her first goal of the afternoon 59 seconds
into play off a Stephanie Cagle (Independence,
Ky.) pass. That goal, however, was the only one of the period for Union, as the
game went into the half with the Lady Bulldogs holding a 1-0 edge.
In the second half, Union put the game out
of Bryan's reach early. In the 47th minute, Peixoto (Brasilla,
Brazil) found the back of the net off a Jenn
Sckril (Edmonton, Canada) service to make the score 2-0. Seven minutes
later, Peixoto added her second goal of the afternoon and seventh of the season
from 10 yards out. The unassisted goal made the score 3-0 in favor of Union.
The scoring barrage continued in the 63rd minute when Hall added her second goal of the day and 11th of the
year off a Cagle assist (her second of the day, as well), to make it 4-0. The
final goal of the afternoon was scored by Sckril in the 69th minute.
On the play, two Lady Bulldogs were credited with assists, Nikki Jeck (Richmond, Ky.) and Peixoto.
Overall, Union outshot Bryan 17-8 in the
contest and held a 9-6 advantage on corner kicks. In goal, Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up the shutout win after
making two saves.
Union will now take a break from action and
return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 16th when they take on Montreat
in AAC action. Kickoff if set for 1 p.m.
