BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
The Union women's and men's soccer team's will host a pair of 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference soccer tournament quarterfinal matches on Saturday afternoon at Burch-Nau Field.
The Lady Bulldogs, who ended the regular season with a 11-6 overall mark, 5-1 in the AAC, enter the tournament as the number two seed and will host seventh-seeded Montreat at 12 noon. At 3 p.m., the third-seeded men's team (who finished the year with a 7-10-1 record, 4-3 in the AAC) also hosts Montreat, the tournament's sixth-seed.
The Lady Bulldogs, who earned a share of the AAC regular season crown for the second straight season, are led on the offensive end by senior Ashley Hall
(Hazard, Ky.) who has scored a conference-best 18 goals on the year (that mark in the 12th best in the NAIA, as well) and Renata Peixoto
(Brasilia, Brazil) who finds her self two assists away from tying the Union all-time record for assists in a career (56).
In net, senior Patricia Nardy
(Sao Paulo, Brazil) has posted a 1.38 goals against average on the year, making 104 saves, with four shutout victories.
In the regular season match up between Union and Montreat, the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 6-1 win on the road. Hall scored three goals in the match, as Union raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first period.
On the men's side, Union is led by Chris Elliott
(Isle of Wright, England) who is the team's offensive leader with 19 total points (seven goals, five assists). Elliott is joined in the team lead in goals scored with Jamie Cozens
(Southampton, England), who has also scored seven goals on the year. In net, senior Jonathan Shaw
(Merseyside, England) has posted a 1.59 goals against average and made 70 saves.
In the regular season, Union dropped a 5-2 decision at Montreat. Cozens scored both goals on the afternoon for the Bulldogs.
Both teams are looking to move on to the semifinals of their respective tournaments, which will be held next weekend. On the women's side, Tennessee Wesleyan will be the host, hosting matches on Friday Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13, while on the Men's side, Bryan will host matches on those same dates.
