WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Union College women's swimming team registered a NAIA National Championship Meet qualifying time in the 200 medley relay Saturday in a dual meet at the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.)

Cumberlands won the event by a score of 122-36, but Union guaranteed itself a spot at nationals in the 200 medley relay. The team of Kristina Kirk (Versailles, Ky.) Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.), Eden Ellison (Tamms, Ill.) and Kelli Rogers (Elizabethtown, Ky.) posted a time of 2 minutes and 8.03 seconds, edging the qualifying mark by 1.94 seconds.

"We had a good start to the season," said Union coach Rafael Forti. "We have been training very hard in the pool and weight room, and the times are already very close to last season's best."

Two individuals hit national B qualifying marks as well. Kirk registered a conditional qualifying time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.38, needing to shave 3.59 seconds to secure a spot at nationals.

Messmer also hit a conditional qualifying time in the 200 individual medley 2:30.10. She needs to cut 6;51 seconds off that time to lock up a spot at nationals.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-1 overall) return to the pool on Nov. 3 when they will face Transylvania (Ky.) University and Asbury (Ky.) College in Wilmore, Ky. The double-dual meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
