BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior Ashley Hall scored a pair of goals within the first seven minutes of the game to propel No. 2 seed Union to a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference quarterfinal match over seventh-seeded Montreat (N.C.) Saturday.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs (12-6 overall) advance to the semifinal round to face the winner of the game between No. 3 Milligan (Tenn.) and No. 6 Bluefield (Va.). The semifinal and championship matches will be held at top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan on Nov. 12-13.
Hall (Hazard, Ky.) netted the game's first goal in the second minute off a free kick by Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) to make it 1-0.
In the 7th minute, Hall banged home a rebound to put Union up 2-0 after Montreat goalkeeper Sarah McGuirt could not corral the save.
From that point on, Union kept Montreat at bay and cruised to the 3-0 AAC Tournament victory.
McGuirt had seven saves in goal for Montreat, which ends the season with a record of 1-15-2.
