MONTREAT, N.C. - Union
wrapped up the regular season by winning a pair of matches at a
tri-match. More importantly, the Lady Bulldogs swept host Montreat (N.C.) Saturday in Appalachian Athletic
Union defeated Montreat 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, giving the Lady Cavaliers their only conference home loss of the season. Montreat will enter next week's AAC Tournament as the top-seeded team with a 12-2 league mark with Union handing the Lady Cavs both losses.
The Lady Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed for the AAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn.
In the other match, Union won 25-14, 25-27, 25-16, 25-20 over Southern Wesleyan.
Against Montreat, Karina Ramos (Presidente, Brazil) led the way with 14 kills with Maddie Peterson (Soda Springs, Idaho) adding 10 kills. Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) and Hollie Hopkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) each had nine, while Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) registered 31 assists. Kalia Yasak (Kula, Hawaii) notched 19 assists as she and Moreland each had 10 digs.
Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) posted 16 digs, and Brooke Porter (Louisville, Ky.) and Linsey Ellis (Florence, Ky.) each had 11 digs.
Against Southern Wesleyan, Ramos and Peterson repeated their previous performances with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Cantrell and Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) each added five kills, while Silva registered 29 digs. Porter helped out with 10 digs, with Moreland and Yasak chipping in 24 and 15 assists, respectively.
Union ends the regular season with a 20-12 overall record.
