KINGSPORT, Tenn. - No. 2 seed Union opened the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of sixth-seeded Virginia Intermont Wednesday in the first match of pool play.
The Lady Bulldogs won 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 to extend their win streak to six matches.
Union will next face No. 7 seed Bluefield (Va.) on Thursday at 12 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will wrap up pool play against No. 3 seed Bryan (Tenn.) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The semifinal and championship rounds are set for Friday.
Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) and Karina Ramos (Presidente, Brazil) led the charge for Union (21-12 overall) with nine kills apiece. Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) added seven with Maddie Peterson (Soda Springs, Idaho) chipping in six.
For Virginia Intermon (12-20 overall), Brandi Blessing posted a team-best seven kills and eight digs.
