KINGSPORT, Tenn. - No. 2 seed
Union opened the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament with a
3-0 sweep of sixth-seeded Virginia Intermont Wednesday in the first
match of pool play.
The Lady Bulldogs won 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 to extend their win streak to six matches.
Union will next face No. 7 seed Bluefield (Va.) on Thursday at 12 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will wrap up pool play against No. 3 seed Bryan (Tenn.) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The semifinal and championship rounds are set for Friday.
Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) and Karina Ramos (Presidente, Brazil) led the charge for Union (21-12 overall) with nine kills apiece. Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) added seven with Maddie Peterson (Soda Springs, Idaho) chipping in six.
Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) helped out with 21 assists and seven digs, while Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) recorded 15 digs.
For Virginia Intermon (12-20 overall), Brandi Blessing posted a team-best seven kills and eight digs.
