BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
Union's Turrell Morris
scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 109-100 victory over Alice Lloyd in the final game of the 2010 Union College Classic on Saturday evening at Robsion Arena.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 2-3 on the season, while Alice Lloyd fell to 2-3 with the loss.
In the first half, Union jumped out to a six point lead at the 12 minute mark (21-15) after a Morris (Columbus, Ohio) jumper. Alice Lloyd, however, knotted the game up at 27 all with 10 minutes left in the period. For the next seven minutes, both teams traded baskets, as Union held a 49-44 lead with two minutes left.
At this point, Union started to pull away, opening up a 16 point lead in the game's final minute (63-47) after going on a 14-3 run. Alice Lloyd knocked down a free throw before the end of the half, to make it 63-48 in favor of the Bulldogs going into intermission.
In the second half, Union continued to roll, opening up a 75-52 lead with 15:16 left after a Cody Miller
(Barbourville, Ky.) lay-in. This lead was too large of a deficit for Alice Lloyd to comeback from, although the Eagles did cut the Union lead down to five (103-98) with 1:32 left. Union, however, iced the game at the free throw line to earn their second straight victory.
Morris scored his 31 points on an impressive 11-for-15 shooting performance from the field. Morris also pulled 14 rebounds to record his second double-double in as many games.
Other top scorers on the night for the Bulldogs included Ian Davis
(Cherry Hill, N.J.) who scored 23 points on 5-for-9 shooting and a 12-for-14 performance from the free throw line. Miller rounded out the Union double-digit scorers on the night with 16 on 7-for-11 shooting.
For Alice Lloyd, William Jones led all Eagle scorers with 27 points.
