BEREA, Ky. - Eleven different
Lady Bulldogs cracked the scoring column Friday as Union defeated
Wilberforce (0hio) 85-58 at the Berea (Ky.) College Pepsi Classic.
With the win, Union extends its win streak to five games as it now stands at 6-1 on the year.
Union hit 40.0 percent (32 of 80 shots) of its shots from the field as Wendi Messer (Barbourville, Ky.) scored 15 points to lead a balanced-scoring attack.
The Lady Bulldogs connected on just 14-of-37 shots in the first half, but it was good enough to give Union a 40-30 halftime advantage. Union turned up the heat in the second half, outscoring Wilberforce 45-28 en route to the 27-point victory.
Four Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures. After Messer, Laura Perkins (Myra, Ky.) came off the bench to provide 11 points with Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) and Rebecca Gray (Georgetown, Ky.) each chipping in 10.
For Wilberforce (1-7 overall), Tiara Roberts led the way with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Andrecia Smith and Danielle Lewis followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Union outrebounded Wilberforce 51-50, but no Lady Bulldog had more than five rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they play host Berea (Ky.) at 8 p.m.
