BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College freshman Zach Winn has been named the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference Division II Rider of the Year the association announced Friday. This marks the second time in three years the MWCCC Rider of the Year has been a Bulldog.
Winn (Ontario, Canada) joins Travis Mullen as Union’s only two MWCCC Rider of the Year. Mullen won the award in 2005.
The award is based on points accumulated over the season and Winn delivered in his first season at Union.
He picked up two wins with a pair of second place finishes in the regular season in the expert division. At the MWCCC Championship, Winn added a tenth place cross-country finish after he suffered a flat tire while he was riding second. However, Winn earned enough over the season for the Rider of the Year honor.
Head coach Chuck Coffey will take Winn and the rest of the Union cycling team to compete at the National Collegiate Cycling Association Division II National Championship this weekend in Banner Elk, N.C. hosted by Lees-McRae College.
