COLUMBIA, Ky -- Union's
Turrell Morris scored a game-high 27 points, but it wasn't enough, as Lindsey Wilson used a second half rally to knock off the Bulldogs, 81-73 on Thursday evening.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 6-8 overall on the year, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 11-3 overall with the victory.
In the first half, Union controlled the pace, holding a 36-32 lead going into the locker room.
It was more of the same when the second half began, as the Bulldogs
opened up a 46-37 lead off a Morris (Columbus, Ohio) jumper at the 15
minute mark. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 47-37 after
James Strange
(Pineville, Ky.) knocked down one of two free throws moments later.
It was at this point that Lindsey Wilson began to mount their comeback,
as they went on a 17-6 run over the next five minutes to take a 54-53
lead. Union got the lead back with nine minutes left when
Cody Miller
(Barbourville, Ky.) drained a three to make it 56-54 in favor of the
Bulldogs. Union continued to hold the lead until the six minute mark, but the Blue Raiders took the lead back at 59-58.
From here, Lindsey Wilson went on a decisive 9-0 run to take a 68-58
lead with three minutes remaining. The deficit was too much for the
Bulldogs to come back from, as the closest they got to the lead the rest
of the night was at 73-68 with under a minute left.
Overall, Morris scored his 27 points on 12-for-17 shooting from the
field. He also pulled down six rebounds on the night. The only other
double-digit scorer of the night for Union was
Ian Davis (Cherry Hill,
N.J.), who had 10 points. Lindsey Wilson was led by Kalen Kimberland,
who scored 21 points.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Louisiana
Monroe. The exhibition contest against the NCAA Division One member gets
underway at 7 p.m.
