GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Seniors Quintin Borders and Armond Smith made Union history as they became the first Bulldogs to make the Victory Sports Network Football NAIA All-American First Team, the national media organization announced Friday.

In addition to Borders and Smith making the First Team, Union Sports Information Director Jay Stancil was named the 2010 Media Person/SID of the Year.

"Whenever we needed something on Union or one of their opponents, Jay was there to provide us with it," said Jason Dannelly, the owner and founder of Victory Sports Network. "The type of stuff his 'department' turns out is amazing. His game notes and recaps are something you would see from a program with a staff of 10 assistant SIDs, not a small NAIA Sports Information Department."

Stancil is in his 12th year as the sports information director for the Bulldogs.

As for the student-athletes, this is the second time Borders (Lexington, Ky.) made the Victory Sports Network Football NAIA All-American Team as he earned Second Team honors in 2009, but it is the first time Smith (Stone Mountain, Ga.) received the recognition.

Despite missing a portion of the season due to injury, Borders anchored the offensive line which led the way for Union's record-setting offense. The Bulldogs set offensive records for most points in a season (440), most total offensive yards in a season (5,206), most rushing yards in a season (2,904) and most rushing touchdowns in a season (33).

Borders became only the second Bulldog to earn All-Mid-South Conference First Team honors four times and be a First Team NAIA All-American twice. In 2009, he made MSC history by being the first offensive lineman to receive the league's Offensive Player of the Year award.

Smith led the Mid-South Conference in rushing this season, averaging 125.1 yards per game en route to being named MSC West Offensive Player of the Year. He also led all running backs with 16 rushing touchdowns. Smith was MSC Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season and MSC Special Teams Player of the Week once.

During the season, Smith set numerous program records including most rushing yards in a game (312), most rushing yards in a season (1,376), most rushing touchdowns in a game (five), most rushing touchdowns in a season (16), most points scored in a game (30) and most points scored in a season (102 - 16 rushing touchdowns and one kickoff return touchdown).

In addition to earning All-MSC First Team honors, Smith was selected as the 2010 MSC West Offensive Player of the Year.

The Bulldogs posted a 7-4 overall record in 2010 and went 4-2 in the MSC West to tie for second.
