BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Ryan Young led all Union scorers with 17 points, but it wasn't enough, as Bluefield held off the Bulldogs, 82-78 in AAC action on Saturday evening at Robsion Arena.

With the loss, Union fell to 11-13 on the year, 5-5 in the AAC, while Bluefield improved to 9-16 overall and 4-6 in the AAC with the victory.

In the first half, defense ruled things, as the Bulldogs took an early lead and kept it for much of the period. Union held a 28-23 lead with 1:14 left after Brent Cork (Saginaw, Mich.) made one of two free throws, but Bluefield ended the half on a flurry. The scoring run was capped off by a three-pointer at the buzzer by Marcus Jackson that gave the Rams a 31-30 lead going into intermission.

To start the second half, Bluefield came out of the locker room and took control of the contest in the first seven minutes of play, jumping out to a 46-38 lead with 13:20 left in the period. Bluefield proceeded to take their largest lead of the night at the 11-minute mark at 53-42, which was a lead that turned out to be too much for the Bulldogs to comeback from. Union made a run at the Bluefield lead in the game's final minute, but it was too little, too late, as the Rams took the AAC road win.

For the game, Young (Waynesburg, Ky.) scored his 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. He also dished out four assists and shot 2-of-3 from three point range. Other double-digit scorers on the night for the Bulldogs included Payton Ponzer (Independence, Ky.), who had 14 and Cork, who also had 14 points. Stuart Stamper (Hindman, Ky.) rounded out the Union double-digit scorers with 12 points.

Union was hampered by mistakes in the contest, as they ended the night shooting 23-of-36 from the free throw line, while also committed 15 turnovers.

Bluefield was led in the win by Rob Wright, who scored 17 points, as the Ram defense held AAC leading scorer Turrell Morris (Columbus, Ohio) in check all night as he ended the game with just seven points.

Union returns to action on Wednesday night, when they host Montreat at Robsion Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
