BANNER ELK, N.C. - After a rough first day, Union College rebounded and had a strong showing on Day Two at the NCCA Division II National Championships Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C.

Greg Gibson (Salt Lake City, Utah) came through with a strong finish in a muddy and unforgiving short track. Gibson didn’t fall far off the leaders wheels, rolling into a fourth place spot on the podium. The front runners from Colorado College set a blistering pace from the beginning and were quick to pick off riders, cutting many cyclists day on the bike short.

Zach Winn (Toronto, Canada) and Jonathon Turner (Harlan, Ky.) also finished top fifteen. Zac Moore (Loveland, Ohio) also had a strong showing.

The team also tested their technical skills on the rooty and rocky downhill at Sugar Mountain Resort. Gibson launched himself into 27th place, Winn and Turner finished in 28th and 31st, respectively. Moore had a strong finish rolling through in 40th place.

Sugar Mountain was not sweet to the Lady Bulldogs as they tested their skills against the leading Division II ladies on the Collegiate scene. Karen Caldwell (Bristol, Tenn.) finished in 17th, while Amy Russell (Monticello, Ky.) came in 18th place.

The team now stands overall fourth in overall standing, while Gibson is second in the omnium.

The final day of Collegiate racing commences with Dual Slalom on Lees McCrae’s campus.
