CEDARVILLE, Ohio --
The Union track & field teams participated in their first of two events this weekend on Friday night at the 2011 Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invitational. The event was held at the Doden Fieldhouse on the Cedarville University campus.
For the men, the Bulldogs placed sixth overall on the night (out of 13) recording 31 points overall.
In men's field events, in the high jump, junior Corey Niebel
placed in a tie for fourth overall with a leap of five feet, 9.75 inches, while in the pole vault, sophomore Andrew Johnston
finished in a tie for sixth with a clearance of 13 feet, 5.25 inches. The clearance by Johnston broke an indoor school record that he set at last week's Hoosier Invite in the same event.
On the track for the men, freshman Jaquan Holland
finished third in the finals of the 55m dash after crossing the finish line in 6.46, while in the 400m dash, Union had two runners finish in the top ten, as Holland earned another third place finish (50.91), and Shaquille Brown
finished eighth in 53.46. The last finish of note for the men's team came in the 600m run, where freshman Steven Carron
finished third after crossing the finish line in 1:24.17.
For the women, the Lady Bulldogs finished in a tie for 12th overall after competing in just track events. In the 55m dash, Naudine Coulson
finished fifth overall with a time of 7.67, while she finished 10th in the 200m dash in 27.65. The last performance of note for the Lady Bulldogs was in the 600m run where Lavin Hadley
finished 9th overall with a mark of 1:51.38.
The Union track & field teams conclude their weekend tomorrow when they travel to the Depauw Invitational.
