BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union men's tennis team recorded its second win in a row with an 8-1 decision over visiting Cumberlands (Ky.) on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs dropped their home opener 8-1 to Cumberlands.
With the win, the 11th-ranked Bulldogs improved to 4-3 overall. The Union's women's team is 0-2 on the year.
In the men's match, Nicolas Ernst (Rietheim, Germany) and Pierre Vernin (Le Coteau, France) found themselves down 7-2 to Oscar Panioja and Memo Alvares in doubles play. But Ernst and Vernin battled back to win 9-8 (10-4). The Bulldogs went on to take the other two doubles matches by the scores of 8-2 and 8-3.
The Bulldogs won five of the six singles matches to wrap up the 8-1 victory.
Both teams were to play host to NCAA Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) Thursday, but due to the forecast, the matches will now be played March3. Up next for the Union squads is Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
