BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union sophomore forward Turrell Morris was named the 2011 Men's Basketball Co-AAC Player of the Year, the league announced on Monday. Morris, along with fellow sophomore Brent Cork and freshman Cody Miller, also earned All-AAC honors.

Morris, who shared the player of the year award with Bryan's Scott Newton, was also named to the All-AAC first team. Cork was named to the All-AAC third team, while Miller was named to the league's All-Freshman squad.

Morris, who is the first Union player to win a conference player of the year award since 1985 when Bill Anderson won the KIAC Player of the Year award,  has led the Bulldogs to a 15-15 record overall on the year and a 7-7 mark in the AAC.

He has led Union and the AAC for the majority of the season in several statistical categories, including scoring average (18.97 points per game) and rebounding average (10.35 rebounds per game). He also leads the squad in blocked shots with 28 (which is third in the conference) and is second overall in steals with 41.

Morris has been Union's leading scorer in 19 of the 30 games the Bulldogs have played, notching 15 double-doubles overall on the season. He also matched a school record for points in a game (45) in a win over Tennessee Wesleyan on Feb. 16 and nearly matched the school's rebounds in a game record twice during the season. For his efforts, Morris was named the AAC's Player of the Week six times during the season and also earned NAIA Player of the Week honors on two occasions.

Cork, a sophomore guard, earned a spot on the All-AAC third team despite seeing action in half of the games the Bulldogs played in on the year (15 games, nine starts). Cork has averaged 9.7 points a contest, snatched 4.9 rebounds a game and made 17 steals. Cork was named the AAC Player of the Week back on Feb. 14.

Rounding out the list for Union is Miller, who has seen action in 26 games, making 24 starts at forward. He's averaged 9.1 points per game , pulled down 3.9 rebounds a game and recorded 48 assists and 26 steals.
