PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Union stretched its win streak to five games Monday with a doubleheader sweep of host Pikeville (Ky.), winning 5-1 and 5-2.
With the victories, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 8-8 on the season. The Lady Bears fall to 0-3 overall.
In the opener, Falon Catalano (Manchester, Tenn.) fanned seven batters en route to a 5-1 victory. She gave up one run on two hits.
The Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the first, three in the fourth and another in the fifth. At the plate, Catalano had a RBI, while Bethany Rogers (Crofton, Ky.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Hillary Leftrick (Shelbyville, Tenn.) scored twice and drove in another run, and Autumn Greenwell (Hopkinsville, Ky.) picked up a RBI.
Katie Perkins (Owensboro, Ky.) went the distance in the 5-2 win in the second game, allowing two runs on a six hits while striking out five.
Union seized control of the game with a four-run first and capped things off with a run in the seventh.
Rachel Cogdill (Knoxville, Tenn.) went just 1-for-4 but had a two-run single in the first. Ashley Tatman (Lexington, Ky.) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Abby Sears (London, Ky.) was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Leftrick scored twice, and Catalano scored once.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action at St. Catherine (Ky.). The twinbill will begin at 1 p.m.
