SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Union senior guard Wendi Messer was named a NAIA Division II Women's Basketball All-American as an honorable mention, the NAIA announced Wednesday.

The Barbourville, Ky., native is fifth different Lady Bulldog to earn NAIA All-American Honors. Malissa Hutchins (1987-88), Amber Spencer (1992-93) and Chasity Nunn (2003-04) each were honorable mentions, while Brooke Smith made the Third Team in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Messer led Union in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game. She shot 43.1 percent from the floor, 35.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.3 percent from the foul line. Messer led Union 68 3-pointers made as the Lady Bulldogs set a program record with 299 3-pointers made in a season. The old mark was 296 set during the 2002-03 season. In addition, she averaged 4.9 rebounds per game and had 32 assists and 16 steals.

In addition to receiving All-American honors, Messer made the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference First Team and was an AAC Player of the Week once.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season 17-13 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
