BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Two Thursday night games along with a date with NCAA FCS University of Tennessee at Martin highlight the 2011 Union football schedule, released Thursday by Bulldog head coach Tommy Reid.
The Bulldogs will open the season on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Campbellsville (Ky.), which will begin its second season of having lights. The Tigers were 1-1 in their home night games last year.
The second Thursday night game will be at UT Martin, which competes in the Ohio Valley Conference along with Eastern Kentucky, Murray State (Ky.) and Tennessee Tech. The Skyhawks posted a 6-5 overall record and 5-3 in the OVC.
In all, Union will play 11 games for the second year in a row and for the seventh time in program history. The Bulldogs will be the host for five games while taking to the road for six contests.
Union's home opener is set for Sept. 10 against Kentucky Christian. Last season, the Bulldogs posted a 48-0 victory over the Knights.
The Bulldogs will open Mid-South Conference West play when they entertain archrival Cumberlands (Ky.) on Oct. 1 in the annual Battle for the Brass Lantern.
Union will play host to the two MSC West foes its lost to last season in Cumberlands and Cumberland (Tenn.). However, the Bulldogs will have three long road trips in conference play as they will travel to Bethel (Tenn.) on Oct. 8, Belhaven (Miss.) on Oct. 22 and Faulkner (Ala.) on Nov. 12.
On Oct. 15, Union will play host to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for its annual homecoming game. Senior Day is set for Nov. 5 when the Bulldogs take on Shorter (Ga.).
In 2010, Union posted a 7-4 overall record and tied for second in the MSC West with a 4-2 mark. The seven wins are tied for third most in program history.
