BARBOURVILLE, Ky --
Union College men's track & field members Jaquan Holland
and John Luther
swept Appalachian Athletic Conference men's track & field athlete of the week honors, the league announced Monday. Holland earned track athlete of the week honors, while Luther was awarded field athlete of the week honors. This marks the second straight week that the freshman duo swept the AAC weekly awards.
Holland (Long Island, N.Y.) earned track athlete of the week honor after winning both the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday, helping the Bulldogs finish seventh overall as a team at the meet. It also marked the second straight week that Holland won both events at a meet, as he accomplished the same feat at last week's Emory Classic in Atlanta.
In the 100m, Holland finished in 10.94 to beat out 27 other athletes to win, then in the 200m, he crossed the finish line in 22.28 to best 40 other competitors.
Luther (Calhoun, Ga.) earned the field athlete of the week award after besting a school record in the shot put. His throw of 45 feet, 9.75 inches in the event was good enough for a third place finish overall and beat the previous school record that he also held, setting it last week at Emory.
The Union men's track & field team returns to action on Saturday when they take part in the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.
