WALESKA, Ga. - The Union women's tennis team notched its first victory of the season with a 6-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference decision over host Reinhardt (Ga.) on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Lady Eagles drop to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the AAC.
Union began to take control of the match during doubles play, winning two of the three matches. Diane Proteau (Bussy Saint Georges, France) and Ximena Aguilar (Morelia, Mexico) defeated Mandy Renta and Kayla Spivey 8-2, while Meredith Dambrus (Louisville, Ky.) and Marah Rice (Scottsville, Ky.) posted an 8-2 decision over Lauren Smith and Brandi Ward.
In singles play, Proteau and Aguilar won their matches by the identical score of 6-4, 6-2. Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the match-clinching point with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win over Lauren Long. Rice collected the final point for the Lady Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Sarah Richards.
Union returns home Friday to play host to Cumberland (Tenn.) at 1 p.m.
