BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
Union men's track & field's John Luther
was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's men's field athlete of the week the league announced on Monday.
With the announcement, this marks the second straight week that Luther, a freshman, has won the field athlete of the week award. It is also the fourth time on the outdoor season that he has won the award.
Luther captured this week's award after leading the Bulldogs at last week's AAC Outdoor Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. where he won the men's most outstanding athlete award after winning the shot put and finishing second in the discus.
In the shot put, he posted a final throw of 45 feet, 7.25 inches, which shattered the AAC
record in the event (13.24 meters), which stood since 2007. He also
placed second in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, eight inches. Both
marks were new school records in their events as well, as the Bulldogs finished second as a team at the event.
Luther and the rest of the Bulldogs return to action this weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
