BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- The Union College bowling team hosted the second annual Bulldog Bowling Scholarship Tournament recently at the Hillcrest Lanes in Harrogate, Tenn.

"The tournament turned out to be one of the best that I have seen," said Union head bowling coach Brad Piper. "I feel that any of the bowlers that competed in this event will make great college bowlers and really left it all on the lanes today. I hope that I can make this tournament grow next year and be able to add these great bowlers to my program."

In the men's side of the event, number two seed Eric Gallusser was victorious, as he upset the number one overall seed at the tournament in Calvin Whitlock by scores of 152-126 and 193-189. Overall, Galluser bowled an average score of 179.9 in the tournament, while he posted a high score of 239 during the qualifying rounds.

"Eric is a great bowler who brings both a wide level of knowledge and experience with him," Piper said. "He will be a great addition to any bowling program no matter where he ends up next year."

On the women's side, Hannah Roberts took top honors, as she defeated Lauren Knecht in the championship round by scores of 149-99 and 209-169. During the qualifying rounds, Roberts bowled a high score of 249.

"Hannah really showed today that she can bowl, as good if not better than most guys in the sport today," said Piper. "Hannah came in with a 210 avg. in high school, and didn't give up at all during the tournament."

In all, 14 bowlers competed in the event, as $70,000 in scholarship money was given out to competitors.
