BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College softball coach Danny Fish has announced that Brooklyn Hesterberg has signed a letter of intent to join the Lady Bulldog program this fall.

Hesterberg, who played softball at Rowan County High School in Morehead, Ky. this past season, was also a two-sport standout (basketball and softball) at Lakeside Christian Academy in Morehead the previous three seasons.

"Brooklyn is a great addition to our program," said Fish. "Besides being a good player, she is an even better person. At shortstop, she has great range, and a good arm. Offensively, she can hit and runs really well. I believe she has a chance to have a really good career."

In 2011 at Rowan County, Hesterberg batted .614, with 51 RBI, and 70 hits. She had 13 triples on the season, which was the second best mark in the entire state of Kentucky, and five homers, while recording a slugging percentage of 1.079 and an on base percentage of .669. For her efforts, Hesterberg was named an East-West All-Star.

While playing in the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association last year, Hesterberg led her team in virtually all offensive softball categories, while helping the squad reach the KCAA's tournament championship game for the third consecutive season. She was also the starting point guard on LCA's girl's basketball team and was twice named the KCAA's state tournament most valuable player.

"It's been my dream and goal to play college softball," said Hesterberg. "I'm extremely excited about getting that opportunity at Union College and playing for Coach Fish. On my first visit, I could see a strong commitment to having a competitive and successful program."
