BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Appalachian Athletic Conference has released the bracket for the 2007 AAC Tournament set to begin Friday in Bristol, Tenn. at King College. The top seed belongs to Union College, the regular-season champions with a 16-2 conference record, and the Lady Bulldogs will begin their quest for the tournament crown at 11 a.m.
Union will have to wait to see who their first opponent will be. Virginia Intermont College and Bluefield (Va.) College battle at 9 a.m. for the right to advance into the tournament to play the Lady Bulldogs.
Also at 9 a.m., Milligan (Tenn.) College and Tennessee Wesleyan College play with the winner earning a match up against King, the second seed, in the first round at 11 a.m.
The other two first-round contests are set for a 1 p.m. start. Covenant (Ga.) College, the No. 5 seed and UVa-Wise, the fourth seed, will play each other while the other match features third-seed Bryan (Tenn.) College and Montreat (N.C.) College, the No. 6 seed.
The four first-round winners advance to the semifinals set for 4 p.m. with the winner-bracket championship at 7 p.m.
Losers’ bracket matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the AAC Tournament Championship set to begin at 2 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs have won seven of the last ten matches to finish the regular season with a 32-12 record. Union swept both matches against Virginia Intermont, the first a home affair on September 14 and a road contest on November 1. The Lady Bulldogs used a pair of 3-1 home victories on September 8 to take the season-series versus Bluefield.
