GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- A goal by freshman Thales Galan in the 57th minute was the difference, as the Union College men's soccer team held off Mid-Continent University, 2-1, on the final day of the Georgetown College Classic Tournament Saturday.

With the win, Union improved to 2-3-1 on the year, while Mid-Continent fell to 3-3 with the loss.

"We came out very flat early, and [Mid-Continent] jumped on us," said head coach Tyler Brock. "But, after that, we stepped it up on the offensive end and were really pressing up the tempo. I'm very happy with this win today against a solid Mid-Continent squad, and I'm happy where the team is right now."

In the first half, Mid-Continent was the first to crack the scoreboard, when Keegan Bacchus scored early in the ninth minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

In the 31st minute, Union knotted the match up at one when Chris Riley (Cornwall, England) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Marc Miller (Wincheser, Ky.). The assist was the second of the year for the senior, and the match remained tied at one apiece going into the half.

In the second half, Galan (Santa Andzie, Brazil) scored the eventual game-winner 12 minutes into the period. Miller was credited with an assist on the second goal as well, as Union took a one score lead with over 30 minutes left in the game on the first goal of Galan's collegiate career.

The Bulldog defense the rest of the way was strong, as Metcalf preserved the win, making six total saves in the game.

Overall, Mid-Continent outshot Union 20-15 overall in the match.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Cincinnati Christian. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
