MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- Milligan scored three first half goals, and never looked back as they defeated Union College, 5-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Anglin Field.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-4 on the year, 0-2 in the
AAC, while Milligan improved to 4-3-1, 2-0 in the AAC with the victory.
In the first half, Milligan raced out to a 2-0 lead in the games first
10 minutes off two goals by Rachel Martin in the sixth and seventh
minutes, respectively. Martin then notched the hat trick with another
score in the 24th minute, putting the Lady Buffaloes up 3-0.
Union scored their lone goal of the match in the 33rd minute when
Sofie Jorgensen (Oksbol, Denmark) scored her seventh goal of the season. The
score, which was assisted by
Nikki Jeck (Richmond, Ky.), put her in a tie for the team lead in goals
scored for the season, and made it 3-1 Milligan going into the half.
In the second half, Milligan continued to control play, scoring two more
goals in the 49th, and 80th minutes to record the four-goal conference
victory.
Overall, Milligan outshot Union 18-13 in the match, and held a 5-2
advantage in corner kicks. Union goalie
Stephanie Burton (Queensland,
Australia), despite allowing five goals, still made eight saves in net
for the Lady Bulldogs.
Union returns to the pitch on Thursday when they travel to Pikeville for a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
