MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- Milligan scored three second half goals, and held on over the final minutes to defeat Union College, 3-2, in Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Anglin Field Saturday evening.

With the loss, Union dropped 4-5-1 overall on the season, 0-2 in the AAC, while Milligan improved to 5-2, and 2-0 in the AAC with the victory.

In the first half, the Bulldogs were first to strike, as Jonathan Watson (Kirriemuir, Scotland) scored his third goal of the season on a header in front of the box. The score, which was assisted by Marc Miller (Winchester, Ky.), gave UC an early 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the first period, Milligan had scoring opportunities in bunches, firing 10 shots in all in the first 45 minutes. The Union defense, however, was relentless, with goalie Andrew Metcalf (Chester, England) making four saves in net in the period, as the Bulldogs rode the 1-0 lead into the half.

To start the second half, the Bulldogs continued to turn away the Buffaloes. Milligan, however,  finally cracked the scoreboard in the 72nd minute, as Nahom Tekle knotted the match up at one with a score. In the 79th minute, Tekle scored again, giving the Buffaloes their first lead of the night at 2-1.

In the 83rd minute, Sandre Wilson scored what turned out to be the game-winner unassisted, giving Milligan the 3-1 lead.

Union, however, did not fold, as Miller scored in the 85th minute unassisted. The goal, the team-leading fourth of the season for Miller, cut the Milligan lead down to one. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could not come back and score in the final five minutes of the match, as Milligan recorded a thrilling one-goal conference victory.

Overall, Milligan outshot Union by a staggering 30-5 margin (11 of their shots were on goal). The Buffaloes also had a 12-3 advantage on corner kicks. In net, Metcalf was dazzling all night in a losing effort, making eight total saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.

Union returns to the pitch on Thursday, when they travel to Pikeville in an out-of-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
