BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - It was a block party at Robsion Arena Thursday with Union and Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Milligan (Tenn.) combining for 19 total blocks with the Lady Bulldogs pulling off the sweep, winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-20.

With the victory, Union improves to 10-12 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Milligan falls to 8-13 overall and 6-5 in the AAC.

The Lady Bulldogs tallied 11 total team blocks with Karina Ramos (Presidente Prudente, Brazil) leading the way with one solo and five block assists. Lauren McMillan (Corbin, Ky.) and Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) each added two solos and two assists.

McMillan also recorded a game-high 10 kills with Neumann close behind with nine. Caity Merritt (Abingdon, Va.) was solid at the net with seven kills in 11 attacks with no errors for a .636 hitting percentage, and Ramos hammered home six kills.

Union pounced early in the opening set, racing to an 11-3 advantage. With Linsey Ellis (Florence, Ky.) serving, the Lady Bulldogs reeled off six consecutive points to seize the eight-point edge.

Milligan tried to rally but managed to only pull within 19-12 following a block by Kendra Fiddler. Union regrouped and netted six of the final nine points to take the 25-15 decision.

Play was more back-and-forth in the second set as Milligan scored three points in a row late to knot the score at 18-18. The Lady Bulldogs, though, closed out the frame with a 7-1 surge to wrap up the 25-19 victory to lead the match 2-0. 

The third set was similar to the second as Milligan held leads of 14-13 and 17-16. However, with up 20-19, Union scored four points in a row with two coming off aces by Ramos before eventually winning the set 25-20.

Ramos finished the match with three aces.

Kalia Yasak (Kula, Hawaii) recorded 33 assists, while Brooke Porter (Louisville, Ky.) chipped in 22 digs.

For Milligan, Fiddler led the way with eight kills, while Kylie Whaley and Holly English followed with six apiece. Chelsea Spivey had 22 assists and seven digs, and Morgan Rutledge notched 15 digs.

Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to AAC rival Montreat (N.C.) at 1 p.m.
