ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union junior Cat Neumann is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Neumann, an outside hitter from Louisville, Ky., helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week with home wins over Milligan (Tenn.) and Montreat (N.C.).
Union is 11-12 overall and is 9-1 in conference play.
Neumann hit .266 last week with 25 kills in 64 attempts with eight errors. In addition, she had 10 total digs and six total blocks. Her match came in the 3-1 win over Montreat when she recorded 16 kills, five digs and two solo blocks.
On the season, she is second on the team in kills with 164 and is hitting .131. In addition, Neumann has recorded 151 digs, 28 total blocks and 17 service aces.
By virtue of receiving the conference award, Neumann is now up for the NAIA Player of the Week award.
Also being honored by the AAC were Caity Merritt (Abingdon, Va.) and Kalia Yasak (Kula, Hawaii), who were named the AAC Hitter and Setter of the Week, respectively.
Merritt hit .556 last week with 15 kills in 27 attempts with no errors. She also recorded three total blocks. For the year, Merritt has 52 kills, is hitting .176 and owns 24 total blocks.
Yasak averaged 11.57 assists per set last week as she recorded 81 with a high of 48 against Montreat (N.C.). She had a double-double against the Lady Cavaliers as she also notched 12 digs. On the season, Yasak has 719 assists for an 8.99 assists-per-set average.
Union returns to action Tuesday when it plays host to Berea (Ky.).
