JACKSON, Miss. - Union nearly overcame a 20-point deficit, but a wild and crazy finish preserved a 20-14 victory for host Belhaven (Miss.) on Saturday in Mid-South Conference West play.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs (2-6 overall, 1-2 MSC West) trailed 20-0. However, quarterback Ryan Moses (Williamsburg, Ky.) connected on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Ross (Pensacola, Fla.) and 5-yard scoring play to Domonique Jefferson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) to cut the deficit to 20-14 with 5:19 play.

Union got the ball back at the Belhaven 44 after a Blazer punt and a Jontrel Colbert ( Dublin, Ga.) 3-yard return with 1:00 to play. A 23- and 4-yard passes to Sterlin James (Citra, Fla.) moved the ball to the Blazer 17. After an incomplete pass, Deandre Wood intercepted the ball in the end zone and downed it at the Belhaven 1 with 22 seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs nearly caught a break when Blazer quarterback Alex Williams fumbled the snap, but he was able to recover the loose ball to secure the 20-14 Belhaven victory.

Statistically, Union dominated the game as it outgained 435-259 in total offense. Yet, Belhaven scored its two touchdowns on a 95-yard punt return by Rashad Wynes and a 55-yard interception return by Shannon Lucas.

James Bryan added field goals from 32 and 45 yards to complete the Blazers' scoring.

Moses ended the day 24-of-36 passing for 280 yards and two scores. He also ran for 18 yards. Rob Brown (Daytona, Fla.) led the ground attack with 81 yards on 17 carries. Josh Winkle (Christianburg, Va.) caught eight passes for 62 yards with James pulling down five for 96 yards. Brown had three receptions for 56 yards.

The Union defense recorded six total sacks with Isiah Anderson (Boston, Mass.) collecting three to go with his six total stops.

For Belhaven (4-4 overall, 2-2 MSC West), Williams completed 19-of-30 passes for 170 yards, while Justin Gaines ran for 87 yards on 19 attempts.

Union returns home to play host to Cumberland (Tenn.) next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
