PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Pikeville's Andrew Young had 17 points to lead all scorers, as the host Bears defeated Union on Saturday night, 99-54, in exhibition action. The game was the season opener for UC.

In the first half, Union was able to keep pace with Pikeville early on, who opens the year ranked number one in the NAIA Division I Top-25, and is that division's defending National Champion. At the 15:25 mark, the game was tied up at ten apiece with a Brent Cork lay-in.

Pikeville, however, went on a 30-4 run over the next seven minutes to effectively put the game away with seven minutes left in the half, taking a 40-14 lead. The Bears would continue to pad the lead as the half went on, opening up a 56-21 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs could not get the Pikeville lead under 30 points, as the host Bears coasted to a 45 point win at home.

Overall on the night for Union, Cork was the squad's only double-digit scorer with 11 points, along with four assists. Cody Miller added nine points and five rebounds, while Ryan Young had eight points.

Union returns to action on Tuesday when they visit Lindsey Wilson. Tip-off is set for 8:30 (EST).
