COLUMBIA, Ky. --
Lindsey Wilson's Chase Cox scored 17 points to lead all scorers, as the host Blue Raiders used a strong second half to defeat Union College, 78-59, in NAIA men's basketball action on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Bulldogs fell to 0-1 on the year, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 1-0 with the victory.
In the first half, Union played strong defense at the outset, taking a 10-5 lead at the 13 minute mark after forward Brent Cork
(Saginaw, Mich.) knocked down a shot in the lane. Union would keep a lead over the majority of the half, extending it out to 23-15 with three minutes left in the half after a Cody Miller
(Barbourville, Ky.) jumper.
This is where Lindsey Wilson began their comeback, as the Blue Raiders went on a 11-3 run to end the half, punctuated by a Justin Archie three pointer with one second left in the half that tied the contest up at 26-all going into the half.
In the second half, Union held their ground in the first couple of minutes, eventually taking the lead back at 36-33 with 15 minutes left on a Josh Hurd
(Independence, Ky.) jumper.
It was here that Lindsey Wilson went on a back-breaking scoring run, going on a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 47-36 lead with 11 minutes left. Union could never get the momentum in the contest swung in their favor the rest of the way, as the closest they got to the lead was nine points.
Once the dust settled in the relentless Lindsey Wilson rally, they had outscored Union 45-23 in the last 14 minutes of the contest to coast to a 19-point home victory.
Overall, the Bulldogs were led by Hurd, who scored 12 points, and pulled down six rebounds. Ryan Young
(Waynesburg, Ky.) added nine points, while Cork and Miller each had eight points. Miller also ended the night with a game-high 12 rebounds. LWC had four players score in double-figures on the night, led by Cox's 17.
Union returns to action on Friday when they travel to Southern Virginia University to take part in the 2011 Knights Fall Classic. The Bulldogs will take on the host Knights in their first game on Friday, with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
