BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Southern Virginia's Anders Jacobson scored 22 points, leading the Knights to an 82-61 win at home on Friday evening over the Union College men's basketball team. The game was apart of the 2011 Knights Fall Classic.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 0-2 on the year, while Southern Virginia improved to 1-0 with the victory.
In the first half, Southern Virginia came out aggressively, and set the tone for the night right from the start, racing out to a quick 12-4 lead in the first four minutes. The Knights eventually extended the lead out to 21-9 at the nine minute mark, and never looked back the rest of the half, ending the period with a 42-25 lead.
In the second half, Southern Virginia continued to firmly hold onto the lead throughout the period, as the closest the Bulldogs got to it the entire half was 14 points, as the host Knights coasted to a 21-point win in a game they never trailed in.
Overall, the Bulldogs were led by Josh Hurd
(Independence, Ky.) who had a team-high 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting), while pulling down nine rebounds. The other double-digit scorer on the night for Union was James Strange
(Pineville, Ky.), who had 12 points.
Southern Virginia was led by two 20-point scorers in Jacobson, who had 22, and Spencer Briggs, who had 21 points.
Union concludes play at the Knights Fall Classic tomorrow when they take on Lindsey Wilson. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
