MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan's Aaron Martin scored a game-high 23 points, as the second-ranked Wildcats defeated the Union College men's basketball team, 94-70, on Wednesday night.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 0-4 on the year, while Indiana Wesleyan improved to a perfect 3-0 with the victory.
In the first half, the Bulldogs fought hard over the first eight minutes, as they found themselves down just 16-13 after a James Strange
(Pineville, Ky.) jumper in the lane at the 12 minute mark.
Here, Indiana Wesleyan ripped off a 7-0 run to go up 24-13 with nine minutes to go in the half. The closest Union got to the IWU lead the rest of the half was nine, as the Wildcats continued their run, eventually taking an insurmountable 44-21 lead with five minutes left in the half.
Indiana Wesleyan then coasted the remainder of the period, and went into the half with a commanding 56-33 lead.
In the second half, it was more of the same, as the Wildcats took their biggest lead of the night with 12 minutes to go at 76-43. Indiana Wesleyan then coasted the rest of the way, rolling to a 24-point win.
Overall, Union was led in the contest by Brent Cork
(Sagniaw, Mich.) who had a team-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. Cork also pulled down eight rebounds, and notched two assists. The other double-digit scorer on the night for the Bulldogs was Stuart Stamper
(Hindman, Ky.), who had 10 points.
Indiana Wesleyan had five double-digit scorers in the win, led by Martin's 23, who shot was 6-of-9 from outside the arc in the win.
Union returns to action on Friday when they host their 2011-12 home season opener with a matchup against Asbury at Robsion Arena. The game, which is part of the 2011 Bulldog Classic, is set to tip at 8 p.m.
