BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
Four members of the Union College men's soccer team were named to the 2011 All-AAC Teams the conference announced today. Also, goalkeeper Andrew Metcalf
won the league's Freshman of the Year Award.
Two Bulldogs were named to the All-AAC first team in Metcalf, and forward Marc Miller
Metcalf (Chester, England) was impressive all season long in net for the Bulldogs, making a start in 17 of the 19 matches Union played in on the year. He made a AAC-high 116 saves on the year, while recording a goals against average of 1.66. He also notched two shutout wins on the season.
Miller (Winchester, Ky.), a senior who transferred into Union in the offseason, was a catalyst on the offensive end all season for the Bulldogs, scoring seven goals and adding eight assists for a season point total of 22. Miller scored three game-winning goals on the year, as well, which was a team high.
Representing Union on the All-AAC second team is midfielder Jonathan Watson
(Kirriemuir, Scotland). Watson, a freshman, was the Bulldogs' leading goal scorer at the end of the season, netting nine goals on the year. He also added two assists to record a final point total of 20 in 16 matches played. Watson also scored two game-winners on the year for the Bulldogs, as well.
The last UC player to be named to the All-AAC teams was junior Chris Elliott
(Isle of Wight, England), who earned a spot of the third team as a midfielder.
Elliott, who earns a spot on the All-AAC team for the third straight year, was Union's offensive leader on the year, scoring eight goals and recording 10 assists for a team high point total of 26. Elliott ended the year as the conference's leader in assists per game (0.67), while tying for the conference lead in total assists.
The Bulldogs ended the 2011 season with a 10-7-2 overall record.
