ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union's Lindsey Waters is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Waters averaged a double-double last week to help the Lady Bulldogs to a 1-1 record. Union dropped a 71-59 decision at No. 19 Indiana Southeast but defeated Berea (Ky.) 83-72.
The 6-foot-1 forward/center from Stearns, Ky., averaged 21.5 points and 10 rebounds in two games. She also recorded seven blocks and five steals while shooting 46.9 percent from the field. In loss to IUS, Waters paced the Lady Bulldogs with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. She followed with 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the 11-point win against Berea.
For the season, Waters leads the conference in scoring (19.14 PPG), rebounding (11.14 RPG) and blocks (2.86 BPG). She ranks first in NAIA Division II in offensive rebounds per game (5.143) and total blocks (20), third in blocks per game (2.86) and fourth in rebounds per game.
Union is currently 5-2 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs open conference play Wednesday at Bluefield (Va.). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
