BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – A pair of A cuts and another pair of B cuts were obtained by the Union College men’s swimming team in a dual meet when King (Tenn.) College visited Wednesday.

Freshman Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) reached an A cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of one minute and 3.68 seconds. He joined Karl Smith (Lexington, Ky.), Jeremiah Back (Flatgap, Ky.) and Adam Woodward (Hopkinsville, Ky.) in the 200 freestyle relay for Union’s other A cut. The group finished at the 1:35.6 mark.

“Our men swam two strong relays, qualifying with an A cut in one and just missing in the other,” head coach Rafael Forti said. “Individually we had many personal bests, and some performances really close to cuts. They have been working hard and the results speak for themselves.”

Viscardi added a B cut and broke the 200 individual medley school record after he posted a time of 2:12.00.

Colin McEachran (Blenheim, Canada) set a new Union record and obtained a B cut in the 1,650 freestyle. He completed the race with a time of 19:20.78.

Union picked up a 51-44 win over King and the Bulldogs improved to 4-3 on the season.

“It was a great evening for us in the pool” Forti added. “Everyone swam really hard and I am proud of how we hit the water tonight.”

Next for Union is the Asbury College Invitational on November 30 and December 1 in Wilmore, Ky.
