BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College women’s swimming team notched two national qualifying times and two school records in a dual meet Wednesday against the visitors from King (Tenn.) College.

The two national qualifying times were reached by the 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Kristina Kirk (Versailles, Ky.), Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.), Eden Ellison (Tamms, Ill.) and Kelli Rogers (Elizabethtown, Ky.) made up both relay teams. The medley relay team finished with a time of 2 minutes and 6.35 seconds, which is also a new school record, while the freestyle relay time was 1:53.05.

“Our women qualified both relays tonight, and several girls are either already with a cut or very close to one,” said head coach Rafael Forti. “They have been working hard and the results speak for themselves.”

Ellison also swam to a new Union record in the 100 butterfly behind a 1:09.86. She lowered her record by over three seconds.

Messmer reached two B cuts as well. The first came in the 200 individual medley when she finished with a 2:27.85. The other event was the 500 freestyle as she finished at the 5:42.97 mark.

“It was a great evening for us in the pool,” Forti added. “Everyone swam really hard and I am proud of how we hit the water tonight.”

King took the dual meet with a score of 52-42 over the Lady Bulldogs. Union’s record moved to 2-5 after the meet.

Next for Union is the Asbury College Invitational on November 30 and December 1 in Wilmore, Ky.
