COLUMBIA, S.C. - Three Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures as No. 19 Union returned to its winning ways with a 76-70 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Columbia (S.C.) on Saturday.
Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky.) recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Alyson Roberts Baxter, Tenn.) followed with 13 points and five rebounds. Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.
With the win, Union improves to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while Columbia is now 4-14 overall and 0-7 in the AAC.
Thanks to hitting 7-of-16 shots (43.8 percent) from 3-point range in the first half, Union was able to open up a 41-31 cushion at the break. However, the Koalas rallied in the second half, making 42.9 percent (15 of 35) from the field. Columbia outscored Union 39-35 during the final 20 minutes, but it was not enough as Union held on for the 76-70 decision.
For the game, Union shot 46.4 percent (26 of 56) from the field and 33.3 percent (9 of 27) from long range. Columbia, meanwhile, connected on 40.3 percent (27 of 67) from the floor and 37.5 percent (6 of 16) from behind the 3-point arc.
The Koalas won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Lady Bulldogs 35-32.
Brooke Hill (Sparta, Ky.) had a solid game off the bench for Union, scoring nine points and grabbing five rebounds.
Columbia was led by Kirby Norris' 18 points. Nikki Craig chipped in 14.
Union returns home Wednesday to play host to Point (Ga.) in another AAC battle. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
