SOMERSET, Ky. - The Union bowling programs hosted their first-ever event Saturday at the Briar Bowl in Somerset, Ky., as the Louisville won the men's competition and Pikeville (Ky.) winning the women's at the 2012 Bulldog Classic.
The Bulldogs placed eighth out of nine teams, while the Lady Bulldogs finished seventh out of a field of eight.
In the men's competition, Louisville's "A" Team won with a total pin fall of 6,649 to easily edge out second-place Campbellsville (Ky.), which had a pin fall of 6,251. Louisville's "B" Team took third with a tally of 6,222. Union racked up a pin fall of 5,263 for eighth place.
John McCarthy of Louisville was the top individual winner with a score of 997. Rounding out the All-Tournament Team are: Jordan Adams of Campbellsville, Drew Johnson of Radford (Va.), Joey Cecil of Bellarmine (Ky.) and Garrett Hillerich of Louisville.
Leading the way for Union was Joey Davenport, who posted a score of 868 to come in 11th overall. Next in line for the Bulldogs was Jonathan Courtney, who rolled an 827 to finish 22nd.
In the women's competition, Pikeville's "A" Team won with a total pin fall of 6,841. Campbellsville was second at 6,371, and St. Catherine (Ky.) was third at 6,106. Union rolled a 5,346 to finish seventh.
Megan Kyle of Pikeville took top individual honors with a score of 1,051. Making up the rest of the All-Tournament Team were: Devona Myers of St. Catherine, Kaylee Kaminski and Brandee Lassiter of Campbellsville, and Natasha Martin of Pikeville.
Christy King led Union with an 889, which was good enough for eight place. Kayleen Hiatt and Hannah Roberts placed 13th and 14th, respectively, with scores of 871 and 869.
Union returns to action Feb. 12 at the Thomas Burris Classic in Lexington, Ky.
